There is something about the Pantanal which is difficult to describe. It is like going to an unseen world where weird and wonderful animals lie waiting around every corner. The Giant Anteater roaming the plains alongside Puma and Jaguar is an unreal and a unique experience only seen in National Geographic Documentaries. Due to this and so many more fascinating experiences we fell in love with this crazy place the first time we went.
The sheer size, diversity and history of the Pantanal is astounding and reveals a bygone era of cattle ranching and wildlife. Instantly one becomes aware of the brightly coloured parrots flying over head the flocks of which are punctuated by the bright yellow bills of Toucans! The multitude of Caiman and Capybara set the scene on the ground for when the mighty and majestic view of the Hycinth Macaws fly overhead in a flash of blue. Then if that was not enough to satisfy you, you have the complete juxtaposition of the Emas National Park in the Cerrado. Where bountiful birdlife overwhelms you! If you are lucky enough you may be able to spot the very rare and elusive Maned Wolf.
Other unique species like the Giant Anteater, Tapir and if you have enough dedication and patience the Ocelot may grace you with its presence. The primary focus of this tour is to see Jaguars and the tour mentioned here goes to the hot spot for Jaguar viewing – Porto Jofre. We do, however, combine this location with other wildlife zones where you have the opportunity to see and photograph wildlife mentioned here.
Day 1: Cuiabá airport to Pouso Alegre, a traditional Pantanal ranch.
Arrival at Cuiabá airport in the morning, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the Pantanal. After driving about one and a half hours we arrive in Poconé. From there your wildlife adventure starts as you hit the Transpantaneira road, a dirt road that transects the Northern Pantanal. Stop to photograph all kinds of wildlife concentrated in the water pounds along the Transpantaneira road. Arrive at your lodge just before lunch time. After our midday break we go on a forest walk in search of dry land mammals and birds. At night head out on a night safari in search for night animals like Ocelot, Puma, Giant Anteaters, Tamandua, Crab-eating Raccoon, Potoos and Owls. Dinner and Overnight.
Day 2: Full day at Pouso Alegre Lodge.
A full day to explore the many wildlife opportunities on this 10,000 hectare private reserve. Our activities are a combination of overland safaris, forest walks, and night safaris.
Day 3: Pouso Alegre and transfer to Porto Jofre.
Early breakfast and checkout. This morning drive further into the Pantanal all the way to the end of the Transpantaneira road, to Porto Jofre. Stop to photograph wildlife along the road. Check-in at your lodge situated on the riverbank of the mighty Cuiabá river. Lunch and break.
In the afternoon, go on our first boat safari in search for Jaguars and other Wildlife concentrated along the riverbanks. Dinner and overnight.
Days 4, 5 & 6: Boat safaris for Jaguars and other wildlife in the State Park.
We will have three full days devoted to the boat safaris on the Cuiabá River and its tributaries, in order to maximize our chances of watching and photographing Jaguars, Giant River Otters and a realm of wildlife in the Meeting of the Waters State Park. Our outings will always be during the day, from sunrise to 11.30am and after a short lunch break in the afternoon until sunset. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7.
Porto Jofre and back to Cuiabá airport.
Breakfast and check-out. Transfer back to Cuiabá airport.

Day 1 – Cuiabá airport to Taiamã Reserve.
Arrival at Cuiabá airport in the morning, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the Pantanal. After driving about two and a half hours you arrive in Cáceres. From here you will hit the a dirt road that transects the Northern Pantanal and you will stop to photograph all kinds of wildlife concentrated in small water pools along the road. We will arrive at your lodge just before lunch time. After your midday break you will go in your first boat safari in search for Jaguars and other wildlife, in and around the Taiamã Reserve. Dinner and Overnight.
Days 2, 3 & 4 – In search for Jaguars and other wildlife in the Taiamã Reserve.
You will have three full days devoted to the boat safaris on the Paraguay River and its tributaries, in order to maximise your chances of watching and photographing Jaguars, Giant River Otters and other wildlife. Your outings will always be during the day, cruising the rivers in search of Jaguars and other wildlife. Dinner and overnight.
Days 5 – Taiamã Reserve and transfer to Pantanal ranch.
Breakfast and transfer to a traditional Pantanal ranch. We will arrive around lunch time. After your midday break you will go on a forest walk in search for dry land mammals and birds. At night you will go on a night safari in search for night animals like Ocelot, Puma, Giant Anteater, Tamandua, Crab-eating Raccoon, Potoos and Owls. Dinner and Overnight.
Day 6 – Full day Pantanal ranch.
Full day of activities in this huge private game reserve. Your activities are a combination of overland safaris, forest walks and night safaris. You will start early before sunrise until 10.30am and after a midday break the activities start again at 3.30pm until sunset. At night you will go out in search for night animals after dinner. (B,L,D).
Day 7 – Pantanal ranch and transfer back to Cuiabá airport.
Full morning to explore the many wildlife opportunities in this big private reserve. After lunch check out and transfer back to Cuiabá airport.
